grief and transformation

sometimes the voice knows before words
Voice, ritual and contemplative practice for times of loss, change and becoming.

When words are not enough
Grief changes the shape of a life. It may arrive through death, separation, illness, migration, ageing, a change in identity, an ending we chose or one we did not.
Often, ordinary language cannot hold its full texture. A breath, a note, a remembered song or a sound
without words may speak more truthfully.
These offerings create room for grief to move through voice, silence, ritual, writing and shared witness.
Grief as love in motion
Grief can be understood as love continuing to move after the form of a relationship has changed.
Voice gives that movement somewhere to go. It does not make grief disappear. It can give grief form,
companionship and breath.
In singing, we may meet what has been held. In silence, we may feel what cannot yet be sounded. In community, we discover that sorrow does not have to be carried alone.
The Practice
Depending on the offering, the work may include embodied sounding, simple song, mantra, improvisation, poetry, meditation, imaginal practice, ritual and periods of silence.
There is no expectation to sing beautifully or to tell a complete story. We work with what is present and allow the voice to find its own measure.

who this work is for
This work is for people living with grief, moving through transition or sensing that something in their life has ended and another form has not yet become clear.
It is also for therapists, teachers, carers and facilitators who spend much of their lives holding others and need a place where their own experience can be received.

Voice Yoga for Grief 2026
Voice Yoga for Grief is an intimate eight-week online journey for a small group of no more than twelve people. Through voice, singing, embodied practice, ritual and shared reflection, we will explore ways of meeting grief that honour the uniqueness of your own experience, while also remembering that grief is something deeply human and something we do not have to carry alone.
Grief can make us withdraw. We may protect ourselves from anything that feels exposing, tender or close to the heart. Sometimes that protection is necessary. But over time we may also begin to long for somewhere we can soften a little, make contact with what is here and be alongside others who understand something of this landscape. This course offers such a place. It is a carefully held container in which you are invited to come exactly as you are. Nothing is forced. You do not need to be able to sing, perform, explain your grief or share anything you do not wish to share. You are encouraged to listen to your own limits and move at your own pace.
And you will not be doing this alone.
There is something profoundly supportive about gathering regularly with the same small group of people
- those who may have very different stories but who understand something of grief from the inside. Over the eight weeks we create a community in which grief does not need to be hidden, hurried or made more comfortable for somebody else.
This course is for all forms of grief, not only bereavement.
You may be grieving the death of someone you love, the ending of a relationship, changes in health or identity, fertility or parenthood, ageing, displacement, ecological or collective loss, a future you imagined, a life that has changed course, or something you cannot easily name. You may simply feel the presence of loss, longing or change and want somewhere to meet it more consciously.
